Phase I Teacher Training of the Amgen Biotechnology Experience (ABE) Program Successfully Completed! 🎉

With the support of the Amgen Foundation, the Amgen Biotechnology Experience (ABE) Program was successfully conducted in collaboration with Kalkınma Atölyesi, Middle East Technical University, and Kafkas University. The Phase I Teacher Training took place at Maya Schools, which graciously hosted the event.
About the Training
During this special training, 23 science teachers had the opportunity to experience fundamental biotechnology applications. Distinguished contributors to the program included Prof. Dr. Ziya Selçuk, Dr. Levent Okut, Founder’s Representative of Maya Schools, and Onur Aydın, R&D and Innovation Coordinator at Maya Schools.
Training Content
- February 6, 2025: The program commenced with an online Welcome Meeting.
- February 8-9, 2025: During face-to-face sessions, teachers engaged in key biotechnology practices such as DNA isolation, micropipette usage, and gel electrophoresis.
- February 13, 2025: The online Phase I Teaching Session focused on integrating the training content into classroom lessons.
- February 20, 2025: A planning meeting was held to discuss ABE classroom implementation and the use of ABE kits.
Key Outcomes of the Training 👩🔬
Participants gained access to digital resources via the LabXchange platform, allowing them to conduct virtual experiments. The hands-on experience in micropipette usage, DNA isolation, and gel electrophoresis provided a solid foundation for teachers to apply these techniques in their classrooms.
Teacher Feedback 💬
✨ "As a chemistry teacher, I once again realized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration. Learning new things was truly motivating!"
✨ "I had the chance to experience certain techniques for the first time, and it was an exciting experience. With more practice, our knowledge will continue to improve."
✨ "I saw how effective lesson planning can be when working collaboratively with teachers from different disciplines."
✨ "This training helped me understand the scientific contexts behind many concepts I previously knew by rote."
We continue to learn and grow together in the light of science! 🚀
