Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) Program DNA Isolation, Micropipetting, and Gel Electrophoresis Teacher Training Completed!

The new teachers participating in the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) Program completed their Phase I training (DNA Isolation, Micropipetting, and Gel Electrophoresis) after the face-to-face training sessions held at the Middle East Technical University (METU) Department of Biological Sciences on October 8th and 15th, followed by an online meeting on October 18th. During the morning session of the face-to-face training at METU on October 15th, teachers' questions about DNA isolation were answered. After explaining the types and parts of micropipettes and how to read the volume window, a micropipetting lab practice was conducted. Following the practice, the correct and incorrect steps in pipetting were discussed. In the afternoon session after lunch, various types of gel electrophoresis, their areas of use, and working principles were explained. After theoretical discussions, a gel electrophoresis laboratory practice was conducted. After the proper packaging of ABE kits were displayed, the training ended. We would like to extend our gratitude to ABE teachers, Ms. Müşerref Dalkılıç and Mr. Süleyman Atilla, for sharing their valuable experiences with the new teachers throughout the day.

During the second online session held on the evening of October 18th, as part of the ABE Teacher Training Program, teachers were provided guidance on creating implementation plans, tracking the schedule of lab activities, preparing kits, and post-usage guidelines. In this meeting, ABE teachers were also there to support their new team members. We extend our gratitude to experienced teachers, Mrs. Ayşegül Tanrıverdi and Mrs. Nesibe Sevindik Kuyucu, for their valuable contributions.
