November 2016 blog Post - STEM Alliance meeting in Brussels

This event brought together stakeholders from industry, education and national & European policy makers to share major achievements and innovations in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) teaching through business-education collaborations.  Speakers included Marianne Thyssen, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Mobility and Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport.  As part of a panel discussion, Dr. Robert Schwamborn introduced the audience to the Amgen Biotech Experience programme. He highlighted in particular the aspects which had made the programme so successful, including the strong focus on teachers and their professional development as well as the long-term continuity of the programme. 

The event also included an award ceremony for teachers from various European countries. Thirteen teacher received recognition for their efforts in promoting STEM subjects and careers in their schools.  See their STEM-promoting initiatives here.

We would like to encourage you to submit your own STEM events for the next competition round and gain international recognition for your work! The ABE classes you carry out at your school would certainly qualify for the event category.
