The theme for National Science Week 2023 is "Transforming lives through the evidence-based science”. National Science Week takes place annually in the first week of August and aims to engage students in STEM learning as part of the Science Engagement Strategy to develop a society that is knowledgeable about science, is scientifically literate and able to form opinions about science.
ABE South Africa showcases at the Biosciences awards highlighting new technologies in biotech, CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Editing technology, at the National Zoological Gardens on July 29th, 2023.
On the 20th of July, the ABE team met with a delegation from Amgen South Africa, led by Dr Motsepe-Ditshego, to discuss the future of ABE South Africa, and partnering with previously disadvantaged universities.
During the last week of July, the Programme Manager of ABE South Africa, Mr Zibusiso Nyoni, travelled to Tshwane West to engage with learners and teachers at ABE Schools. Mr Nyoni presented the Amgen Biotech Experience, its objectives and goals, and touched on some of the exciting topics in ABE.
On Saturday, 29 July, the Programme Director introduced ABE to parents, learners and other stakeholders at the Biosciences Awards at the National Zoological Gardens in Pretoria. A set of posters explaining CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing technology was displayed as part of the exhibits.
