ABE Central Ohio

Welcome to the

Amgen Biotech Experience – Central Ohio

Scientific Discovery for the Classroom

The ABE program at Columbus State Community College (CSCC) provides high school teachers with the opportunity to introduce their students to a series of hands-on biotech laboratory exercises. These laboratory exercises allow high school students to develop skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and evaluation, and the use of foundational techniques and equipment central to the field of biotechnology.

CSCC faculty, from both Career & Technical Education and Biological Sciences, are partnering with local K–12 institutions, Columbus Promise, the Central Ohio Compact, and College Credit Plus to offer professional development and support to secondary school teachers to help them bring ABE to their classrooms, and to raise students' awareness of career opportunities in the biotech industry. Site Director, Dr. Naava Schottenstein, and Site Coordinator, Dr. Drew Spacht, are joined by subject matter experts Dr. Sacha Tadros and Dr. Matthew Saelzler in their efforts to bring ABE to local schools in Central Ohio that fall within the CSCC service area of Franklin, Delaware, Madison, and Union counties. All training and materials are provided to teachers at no cost.
