ABE Turkiye team came together with new teachers on October 1-2, 2022 at the Department of Biological Sciences of METU.

A total of 20 teachers, 10 from Biology, 7 Science and 3 Chemistry branches, participated in this face-to-face trainings.

Amgen Biotechnology Experience (ABE) program, funded by the Amgen Foundation, coordinated by the Education Development Center, and managed by the Development Workshop in Turkey in cooperation with METU, aims to increase the interest of young generations in biotechnology and encourage them to pursue careers in these fields. In line with this purpose, it is primarily aimed to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies of teachers in order to perform biotechnology applications.

We thought, we got stronger with biotechnology!

The training program, which started with the opening and introduction of the ABE program, continued with the messages conveyed by Amgen Turkey-Gensenta General Manager Gülderen Berkman and Amgen Turkey representatives to the teachers via video. The content, which started with conceptual discussions on biotechnology, genetic engineering and its applications, progressed with laboratory practices where teachers experienced, discovered and enjoyed biotechnology.We thought, discussed, reasoned and developed different applications with different perspectives in the trainings where we first experienced the biotechnology applications that the teachers would implement with their students in their classrooms with the teachers.

Experienced Teachers in the Program Shared Their Practices and Experiences!

Ayşegül Tanrıverdi, Özlem Karaağaç and Süleyman Atilla, teachers who have been continuing since the last years of the program, shared their experiences in the program. Sharing exemplary classroom practices, our teachers also shared their experiences on the operational, administrative and pedagogical difficulties they encountered during the classroom practices and how they overcame them. With teachers from different branches, they expressed the importance of handling biotechnology from an interdisciplinary perspective through the discussions they attended.

Meetings for LabXchange Platform Introduction and Classroom Practice Plannings Coming Soon!

The introduction of the LabXchange platform and the planning of classroom implementations will be carried out through online meetings after the intensive training program. Meeting dates and times will be clarified after planning with the teachers.
