ABE Turkey Team Held a Meeting with the Participating Teachers to Make Plannings before the 2nd Term Classroom Practices!

Within the scope of the "Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) Program" carried out in cooperation with DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP and METU in order to increase the interest of young generations in biotechnology and to encourage them to pursue careers in these fields, a meeting with the participating teachers was held to make plans before the 2021-22 academic year, 2nd Term classroom practices.

A total of 21 participants, including the program team and teachers, attended the meeting held online on Thursday, February 24.

An in-service training was carried out in October of the 2021-22 academic year within the scope of the program, which aims to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies of teachers so that they can carry out inquiry-based biotechnology applications. After the in-service training carried out in October 2021, the professional development processes of the teachers have been followed by ensuring the continuity of communication. Within the scope of this professional development process, teachers have been carrying out research-inquiry-based biotechnology applications in their classrooms and carrying out activities that measure the effects of applications on students.

First Semester 49 ABE Classroom Practices and 629 Students

In the first semester of the 2021-22 academic year of the program, a total of 49 classroom practices were carried out with 20 teachers from the fields of biology, chemistry and science education. With these applications, 629 students were reached.

Program Approved by METU Ethics Committee

At the meeting, news from ABE Turkey was shared with the participating teachers. The application permission obtained from the METU Human Research Ethics Committee for a period of 5 years, the ongoing permission processes with the Turkish Ministry of National Education, the developments on the online sharing platform LabXchange, and the points reached on the Optimization of ABE Phase II Laboratories were shared with the teachers.

Preparations for the Classroom Implementation Calendar were Discussed

To do list before and after the practices, the feelings of the participating teachers about the second term, the points they want to improve themselves, their concerns and questions were among the topics discussed during the meeting.
