Professional Development Institute

ABE Professional Development Institute

This summer, Bellarmine University will host the ABE-KY professional development institute (PDI) for local high school life sciences teachers. We will provide training in the use of biotechnical equipment coupled with lessons that meet national and local curriculum standards. The hands-on laboratory exercises will be grouped into four easily understood modules spread out over two days. Participating teachers will each receive a stipend of $100.00 per day along with a loaned ABE “kit” for several weeks during the school year to engage students with authentic science experiences that increase their knowledge of biotechnology and life sciences. Returning teachers will be trained in column chromatography and a newly-offered Precision Medicine module (includes colony PCR), and will have a chance to talk to new teachers about pacing, curriculum, etc.

When: July 9–10, 2024 for first-time teachers (8:00 am–4:00 pm), July 10–11, 2024 for returning teachers (12:00 pm–4:00 pm on the 10th, 8:00 am–4:00 pm on the 11th)
