Since its inception, the CLS has taken the initiative to undertake public affairs and public education, aiming to raise the level of science awareness and scientific spirit of the whole society. In addition to sharing the Center's latest scientific achievements, the CLS is introducing the Amgen Biotech Experience ("ABE") program, a global hands-on science education program, in 2021.

After the epidemic, the teaching team had a thorough discussion on how to better implement the curriculum, referring to middle/high school biology textbooks and discussing with school biology teachers to ensure that the lesson plan fits the students' knowledge background, and finally designed a 1.5-day weekend class version of the model, which covers the molecular biology part without protein expression/purification and is suitable for all students studying biology It is suitable for all students studying biology and will help them to better understand the "genetic engineering" part of the textbook.

On April 8, 2023, the seventh ABE training activity was successfully conducted. Thirty high school students and six front-line high school biology teachers from six middle schools, namely Beijing Middle School, Chenjinglun Middle School, Chenjinglun Middle School Unity Lake Branch, Beijing Changping District No. 2 Middle School, Tsinghua University Affiliated Middle School Jiangtai Road Campus, and Tsinghua University Affiliated Middle School Chaoyang School, participated in this experimental experience. This event was also the first lecture of the weekend class model.

The course was led by Dr. Peng Li, the backbone teacher of Modern Life Science Experimental Teaching Center of Tsinghua University, and the course was conducted on April 8 with plasmid extraction, electrophoresis detection, enzyme digestion, ligation, recovery, and E. coli transformation experimental operation, and on April 15 in the afternoon with PCR identification of positive clones and induced expression experimental operation, and also interspersed with the introduction of genomic DNA analysis and genome sequencing, etc. The training was rich in content, compact in arrangement, and targeted in content. The training was rich in content, tightly arranged and targeted, and a visit to the herbarium was arranged during the PCR waiting time to increase the interest, and the training achieved the expected goal. Teaching team members Cai-Ping Ma, Ying-Zi Li and Yao-Xi Li participated in this activity.
