THE AMGEN BIOTECH EXPERIENCE PROGRAM SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED IN KARS!

Supported by the Amgen Foundation and conducted in collaboration with the Development Workshop and Middle East Technical University, the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) Program has brought a new dimension to science education in Kars. The program was successfully carried out with the participation of 20 science teachers, hosted by Kafkas University and supported by the KAFKAS project run by the Kars Governorship.

Training Process:

  • November 13, 2024: The program started with an online Welcome Meeting.
  • November 16-17, 2024: In face-to-face training sessions, teachers experienced basic biotechnology applications such as DNA isolation, micropipette use, and gel electrophoresis.
  • November 19, 2024: The online Phase 1 Teaching session focused on how to integrate the training content into lessons.
  • November 26, 2024: The planning meeting focused on how to plan ABE classroom applications and the use of ABE kits.

Training Content and Effects:

Participants had the opportunity to access digital materials through the LabXchange platform and practice in a virtual environment. The gains in micropipette use, DNA isolation, and gel electrophoresis will form an important foundation for the applications teachers will carry out with their students.

Some Positive Feedback We Received at the End of the Training:

"I left the training with feelings of excitement and satisfaction. Seeing the applicability of these techniques and gaining new knowledge that I can transfer to my students motivated me greatly."

"It was great again. It was a training where I assessed myself, realized where I am lacking, what I am thinking wrong, where I am sufficient, and what I am thinking correctly. I was tired but it was worth it. 😊"

"If I did it with such enthusiasm, my students will do this application with great excitement. I left each class thinking that they were doing it."

"I think I used my weekend in the best way possible and I am proud of myself."
