The ABE Tampa Professional Development Institute on September 14th, 16th, and 23rd, 2024, was a resounding success, furthering our mission to expand student engagement in scientific practices through hands-on biotechnology labs with real-world applications. 

We had the privilege of training dedicated educators, including five new teachers, equipping them with the skills and confidence to bring biotechnology into their classrooms. Through interactive sessions, participants experienced the power of hands-on inquiry and conceptual learning, fostering a deeper understanding of ABE labs. One teacher shared, “This professional development event provided the perfect balance between background knowledge and practical implementation guidelines.” Even teachers with little to no prior experience in implementing biotech labs walked away with newfound confidence and a deeper understanding—ready to engage their students using ABE labs. 

This event was not just about training educators—it was about building a strong, sustainable community of teachers passionate about bringing biotechnology to students. By engaging and retaining educators through differentiated professional development, we are ensuring that more students in Tampa Bay and beyond gain exposure to cutting-edge STEM education.
