Life Center ABE Project Enters Beijing No.9 Middle School Experimental Teaching Classroom Activity Successfully

In order to better respond to the national policy of science education, build a bridge between large and medium schools, and improve the scientific literacy of middle school students.Promote the improvement of the teaching concept of biology education,In early 2024, the Life Center and the Basic Education and Teaching Research Center of the Beijing Academy of Educational Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the "Basic Education and Teaching Research Center of the Academy of Educational Sciences") reachedIn strategic cooperation, teachers from Beijing and 10 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions outside Beijing have been trained many times.In the autumn semester, the cooperation will be expanded and upgraded, that is, the ABE project teaching team will enter the middle school to carry out training activities.Build the middle school into a new position resource, drive the teachers and students of the biology teaching and research group of our school to participate, and radiate the surrounding middle schools.

The first stop of the upgrade activity is Beijing No.9 Middle School (Beijing No.9 Middle School for short).After the preliminary investigation and assistance construction, from December 7 to December 8, 2024,Sixteen senior two students from Beijing No.9 Middle School participated in the ABE course training.All biology teachers from Beijing No.9 Middle School and 14 biology teachers from Mining School and Jingyuan School participated in the observation and study.This activity is developed and formulated by the ABE project team, providing high-quality teachers to explain;Beijing No.9 Middle School provides experimental sites, facilities and equipment.

 

The opening ceremony was presided over by Jia Qian, a biology teacher from Beijing No.9 Middle School.Jiang Yi, Director of the Office of the Joint Center for Life Sciences of Tsinghua University-Peking University and Project Manager of ABE China Site, first delivered a speech.Mr. Jiang introduced the ABE project of innovative science education aiming at training the next generation of scientists and innovators.It is hoped that students will experience biotechnology through immersion and change from the "receiver" of knowledge to the "creator" of knowledge.Gain in the process, stimulate students'interest in science, and make innovative discoveries in the field of biology in the future.

Subsequently, Professor Zhang Guiyou, an invited representative of the ABE project and former director of the Modern Life Science Experimental Teaching Center of Tsinghua University, delivered a speech.He cites the Andreessen Horowitz Foundation, one of the world's top venture capitalists, which argues that biology is "eating" the world.Biology has evolved into a comprehensive discipline, and biotechnology has affected more and more industries.I hope that through this experience, students can learn some stories behind it and learn subject knowledge well.Hope to ignite the enthusiasm of students to learn biology, and finally wish the students a smooth study.You can succeed in your own field in the future.

On behalf of the school, Vice Principal Xiao Weihua of Beijing No.9 Middle School expressed his heartfelt thanks to the project team and teachers.As an important part of science education in schools, this activity broadens students'horizons and improves teachers' experimental skills.He hoped that the communication between secondary schools and universities would continue to be strengthened in the future, and that teachers and students would gain more from it.Finally, President Xiao, on behalf of the school, presented a souvenir of Beijing No.9 Middle School to the teachers of the ABE project.

The experimental experience was led by Li Peng and Li Yaoxi, the backbone teachers of the Modern Life Science Experimental Teaching Center of Tsinghua University.Teacher Li Peng led the students to complete plasmid extraction, enzyme digestion and electrophoresis detection, recovery of target nucleic acid fragments, and recovery of nucleic acid fragments.Detection, connection, transformation and other experiments; Teacher Li Yaoxi led the completion of the PCR and identification experiments of positive clones.The students operated and felt the experimental process intuitively. During the experiment, the students actively asked questions and discussed enthusiastically.The expected training objectives have been achieved. The ABE teaching team, You Fujin and Han Yujie, assisted in teaching.
