Scientific Discovery for the Classroom

ABE North Carolina, housed at North Carolina A&T State University (NCATSU), serves school districts in central North Carolina. The focus of our efforts is to empower teachers in high schools with both the theoretical knowledge and practical tools to transform their instruction of biology courses with respect to biotechnology. Due to a history of residential segregation in North Carolina, our goal is to target districts (and within them schools) that have differential enrollment of underrepresented minority students. This is consistent with NCATSU’s mission as an 1890 Historically Black Land Grant University and the goal of the Amgen Biotech Experience to diversify participation in its training programs.

The Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) is an innovative science education program that introduces secondary school students to the excitement of scientific discovery. ABE provides secondary school teachers with the loan of research-grade equipment, supplies, curriculum, and professional development at no cost.
